Vineyard Operator

Marnong Estate is a winery, working farm and heritage destination in Mickleham, just 35 minutes north of Melbourne’s CBD and 15 minutes from Melbourne Airport. Set across 1,200 acres in the Sunbury wine region, with sweeping views to the Macedon Ranges, the estate surrounds a restored 1840s homestead and combines a cellar door, restaurants, function and wedding venues, accommodation and a working Angus cattle farm. The first vines went in in 2016 and there are now around 30 hectares under vine, producing cool-climate shiraz, chardonnay and pinot noir alongside Italian varieties including montepulciano, fiano, pinot grigio and Sangiovese.

About the Role

Working in the rolling hills of Mickleham on Melbourne’s northern doorstep, this hands-on Vineyard Operator role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors and being part of a small but dynamic team. Reporting to the Vineyard Operations Manager, the position offers the opportunity to be actively involved in a wide range of day-to-day vineyard operations across a young and expanding vineyard. You will play an important part in supporting overall vineyard productivity and quality and get to a part of an emerging wine brand that is expanding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out day-to-day vineyard works
  • Take part in the seasonal cycle: pruning, shoot and canopy work, and harvest
  • Operate tractors for slashing, mulching and spraying
  • Monitor trellising and irrigation, carrying out repairs to the irrigation system when needed
  • Keep the vineyard and surrounding areas clean, tidy and presentable
  • Maintain accurate records and work to established procedures and best practice
  • Play your part in a strong, everyday safety culture

Job Requirements

  • A minimum of one year’s experience in vineyard operations
  • A demonstrated background working in vineyards or a broader agricultural setting
  • The ability to move between a wide range of vineyard tasks and get through them efficiently
  • Sound working knowledge of vineyard practices, including pruning, harvest and vine maintenance
  • Clear communicator, keen to learn and happy to contribute to a close-knit team
  • A sharp eye for detail and the self-motivation to work unsupervised outdoors
  • A current C class driver’s licence (essential)
  • Forklift and loader tickets and a current chemical users certificate would be well regarded
  • Current right to work in Australia
  • Consents to a pre employment medical

How to Apply

We’re looking for someone with previous vineyard or agricultural experience, a strong work ethic, and a genuine passion for working outdoors. If you enjoy physical work, take pride in attention to detail, and want to be part of a dynamic team shaping the future of a growing vineyard, we’d love to hear from you.

Please submit your application via Seek.

While we take the time to review all applications, only those suitable and have the above requirements will be contacted for an interview
