About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, dedicated Track & Grounds Manager to join our team full-time at our Bunbury location. This role manages, maintains, and presents our racing/training tracks and grounds facilities. You will oversee all aspects of turf management and grounds operations to ensure we maintain safe, well-maintained racing surfaces that meet industry standards and regulatory requirements. This position is integral to the success of our racing events and Bunbury Turf Club’s overall reputation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the daily maintenance and care of the turf course proper, training tracks, and grounds facilities.
- Develop and implement comprehensive track maintenance schedules and grounds management programmes.
- Supervise grounds staff and coordinate work activities to ensure efficient operations.
- Monitor track conditions and recommend improvements to ensure optimal racing surface quality and safety.
- Manage irrigation systems, drainage, and water management to maintain track integrity.
- Ensure compliance with racing industry standards and animal welfare requirements relating to track conditions.
- Coordinate with racing officials to prepare the track for racing events and special occasions.
- Maintain equipment inventory and oversee maintenance and repair of grounds equipment and machinery.
- Liaise with contractors and external service providers for specialised grounds maintenance work.
- Prepare reports on track conditions, maintenance activities, and grounds management performance.
- Oversee health and safety protocols across all grounds operations and facilities.
- Manage budgets for grounds maintenance and capital works projects.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in track management, sports turf management, or equivalent grounds management role, preferably in a racing environment
- Comprehensive knowledge of turf cultivation, irrigation systems, and track maintenance practices
- Strong understanding of racing industry standards and animal welfare requirements for racing surfaces
- Demonstrated experience in supervising and managing grounds staff and teams
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining grounds maintenance equipment and machinery
- Excellent organisational and project management skills with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise effectively with staff, participants, officials, and contractors
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practice in grounds management
- Problem-solving ability and attention to detail in maintaining facility standards
- Physical capability to perform hands-on grounds work as required.
- Relevant qualifications or certifications in turf management, horticulture, or grounds maintenance would be advantageous.
