Irrigator

About Costa

Costa is Australia’s leading grower, packer and marketer of premium quality fresh fruit and vegetables. We nurture our people, cultivate our growing sites and invest in ongoing research and development.

All the products we grow, and sell are fresh, nutritious, unprocessed and grown on our very own farms or those of our partner growers.

The Costa Berry Category is at the forefront of genetic growing and innovation. We export to some of the most demanding markets in the world, so food safety is paramount. In all that we grow, we are committed to sustainable production and growing.

People are at the heart of the Costa business and across our regions we are a major employer with more than 6,000 workers during our peak seasons.

About the Role

Irrigators are responsible for the operation and maintenance of irrigation systems across substrate- and soil-grown berry blocks. This role combines hands-on operational and maintenance tasks, including fertiliser mixing, irrigation control systems, and irrigation lines, with regular monitoring of plant water use and plant health.

We are currently seeking a motivated and reliable Irrigator to assist with a range of tasks across our farm on the Atherton Tablelands of QLD. This role requires a proactive individual who can work autonomously and take ownership of daily responsibilities to ensure smooth farm operations.

Long-term candidates and local residents strongly encouraged to apply.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitor plant water use and manage irrigation scheduling to meet crop targets
  • Daily computer programming to meet irrigation schedules
  • Ensure optimal operation of irrigation systems
  • Scout blocks for irrigation and plant health issues; carry out minor repairs and report major issues to the Irrigation Manager and/or Horticulture Team
  • Complete preventative maintenance in line with scheduled programs
  • Repair irrigation pumps, pipework, and fittings
  • Clean filters and repair and maintain filter sets

About you

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Capacity to undertake moderate physical activity, including regular walking, lifting (up to 25kg fertiliser bags), bending, and reaching
  • Willingness to work outdoors with excellent attendance and a positive attitude
  • Availability to work a regular roster, including weekends
  • Agricultural or horticultural experience (desirable but not essential)
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and follow instructions
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Intermediate/advanced English communication and grammar skills
  • Current driver’s licence

What We Offer

  • Costa Harvest Trail – opportunities to transfer and travel between sites as seasons change
  • Access to clean toilets, drinking water, and free on-site car parking
  • Full training provided across all tasks to support flexibility and consistency
  • Celebration of Cultural Days (occasional BBQs and refreshments)
  • Pay in line with the Costa Berries Enterprise Agreement
  • Free access to an Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Opportunities for learning, development, and career progression
  • A diverse and inclusive workplace—make new friends, learn new skills, and experience different cultures
  • A values-based organisation with a strong culture of CARE
