Growing Assistant

Marland Mushrooms is a leading producer of high-quality mushrooms, committed to innovation, efficiency, and excellence in food production.

We are seeking a Growing Assistant to join our dedicated Growing Department. This is an exciting opportunity to build your skills in mushroom cultivation and develop a career in horticulture with an industry leader.

About the Role

As a Growing Assistant, you will work closely with the Head Grower, Harvest Supervisors and the wider team to support all stages of mushroom cultivation — from filling and growing to harvesting.

Our temperature-controlled growing rooms allow precise management of growing conditions year-round. This hands-on role suits someone who enjoys practical, physical work, pays close attention to detail, and wants to learn about controlled-environment food production.

You will play an important part in helping maintain optimum growing conditions and ensuring top-quality mushroom yields.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Grower in daily growing operations and room inspections.
  • Monitor growing conditions including temperature, humidity, and airflow.
  • Record and report data accurately to support crop monitoring and yield performance.
  • Support the setup and turnaround of growing rooms between crops.
  • Work within the Production team during compost filling operations to ensure quality fills and accurate application across growing rooms.
  • Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and food safety standards in all work areas.
  • Follow all company policies, WHS standards, and food safety regulations.

About You

  • A keen interest in horticulture, food production, or mushroom growing.
  • Certificate in Horticulture (preferred).
  • Previous experience in horticulture, agriculture, and/or food manufacturing.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work in a team environment.
  • Physically fit and comfortable working in indoor, temperature-controlled environments.
  • Commitment to maintaining safety and quality at all times.
  • Australian work authorisation is required for this position.

What We Offer

  • Mushroom growing specific training.
  • Opportunities for career progression within the Growing Department.
  • A supportive, hands-on team environment.
  • Competitive pay based on experience.
