Golf Course Superintendent – Chalambar Golf Club
An opportunity to take ownership of the next stage of Chalambar Golf Club’s course development. Chalambar Golf Club is looking for an ambitious Golf Course Superintendent to take ownership of the next chapter of our golf course.
This is a little different from the traditional club Superintendent role.
Chalambar is operated by MAD Golf, a private operator and investor. You won’t be reporting to a rotating committee or navigating competing opinions about how the course should be maintained. You’ll report directly to the people operating and investing in the Club, with the authority and support to lead the course properly.
We’re looking for someone who wants that opportunity.
The Opportunity
Chalambar is an established 18-hole golf course in Ararat, Western Victoria.
Over the past several months, the course has already undergone a significant transformation through a renewed focus on presentation, maintenance standards and getting the fundamentals right.
Now we want to take it further.
You’ll inherit an established three-person grounds team and take responsibility for setting the maintenance program, standards and priorities across the course.
Investment is available where it makes sense. We don’t expect miracles without the resources to deliver them. We want a Superintendent who can identify what the course needs, build the case for it and work directly with us to progressively improve the playing surfaces, presentation and overall golf experience.
At the same time, significant investment is already happening elsewhere at Chalambar. Major clubhouse renovations are underway, forming part of a broader repositioning of the venue and its hospitality offering.
The golf course needs to match that ambition.
What You’ll Own
You’ll have responsibility for the day-to-day and longer-term management of the golf course, including:
- Leading and developing the existing three-person grounds team
- Course presentation and playing standards
- Turf management and agronomy programs
- Irrigation management
- Machinery, equipment and maintenance planning
- Chemical, fertiliser and spraying programs
- Budgets, purchasing and resource planning
- Workplace safety and compliance
- Developing practical improvement priorities for the course
- Working directly with MAD Golf on future course investment
Most importantly, you’ll be trusted to do your job.
We want someone who takes pride in presenting a great golf course, notices the details and can balance day-to-day presentation with a sensible longer-term plan.
Who We’re Looking For
You may already be a Superintendent looking for greater autonomy, or an experienced Assistant Superintendent ready to take control of your own course.
We’re interested in practical capability, leadership and ambition.
You’ll ideally bring strong turf, irrigation and agronomy knowledge, experience managing golf course maintenance, confidence leading a small team and the ability to plan and communicate clearly.
You should also be someone who enjoys being hands-on. This isn’t a role where the Superintendent sits in an office directing others. You’ll lead the team, set the standard and be visible on the course.
Why Chalambar?
Because this isn’t a committee-driven Superintendent position.
You’ll have a three-person team, direct access to the operator and investor, the ability to influence where money is spent and genuine ownership of the course and its direction.
Chalambar has already changed considerably.
The foundations are there. The clubhouse transformation is underway. The course is improving.
Now we’re looking for the person who can take it to the next level.
$120,000 + superannuation. Relocation assistance available.
No committee. A three-person team. Direct access to the investor. Your course to lead.
