Estate Gardener & Grounds Supervisor

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys variety, plans ahead and takes satisfaction in keeping a property healthy, functional and beautifully presented. You will independently organise and carry out the estate’s day-to-day gardening, grounds care and rural maintenance, supported by additional labourers and specialist contractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain gardens and lawns, including mowing, pruning, planting, fertilising and weed control.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair and seasonally adjust irrigation systems.
  • Support the care of the orchard, vineyard and trufflery, with specialist guidance where needed.
  • Maintain paddocks, fencing, gates and tracks, and coordinate seasonal fire-preparation work.
  • Safely operate and care for tractors, ride-on mowers and gardening equipment.
  • Carry out minor repairs, organise supplies and identify when specialist help is required.
  • Plan weekly and seasonal work, keep straightforward records and communicate with the owners.
  • Organise and work alongside backpackers, additional labourers and contractors.
  • Remain physically fit and capable of performing outdoor, manual work for extended periods, including lifting, bending, walking over uneven ground and operating machinery.
  • Be prepared and able to work safely in varying and adverse weather conditions, including heat, rain, wind and cold, with appropriate consideration for workplace safety.

About You

  • Proven experience caring for a substantial garden, rural property, equestrian facility or private estate.
  • Ability to assess what needs doing, establish priorities and follow tasks through without constant direction.
  • Sound knowledge of plant and lawn care, irrigation, safe spray application and machinery operation.
  • Reliable, approachable and patient when giving others instructions.
  • Physically fit, resilient and comfortable working outdoors in all seasons and in challenging weather conditions.
  • Understanding of the importance of pacing yourself, using appropriate protective equipment and following safe work practices.
  • Horticultural qualifications are highly regarded, but strong practical experience is equally valued.
  • Current driver’s licence and reliable transport to Wooroloo.
  • Appropriate Australian working rights.

Benefits

  • $43 per hour plus super—equivalent to $84,968 annually, plus paid leave entitlements.
  • Permanent full-time employment at one established property.
  • Additional labour support for routine work and larger tasks.
  • Access to specialist advice and contractors as required.
  • Scope to contribute your ideas and make lasting improvements.
  • A varied outdoor role with the opportunity for a long-term working relationship.
